An impressive and large late-19th-century German still life depicting an abundant arrangement of flowers, fruit, oysters, wine, glassware, and decorative vessels against a dark interior.

At the center of the composition, a large blue-and-white ceramic vase is filled with roses, lilacs, and richly painted foliage. Surrounding it are glass and metal compotes overflowing with grapes, peaches, apples, and other fruit. Wine bottles, a decanter, drinking glasses, opened oysters, shells, curling grapevines, and a deep red table covering complete the elaborate banquet arrangement.

The artist demonstrates considerable technical ability in the rendering of contrasting textures, including the translucent skins of the grapes, reflective glass and metal surfaces, delicate flower petals, decorated porcelain, oyster shells, and richly folded fabric. Concentrated highlights emerge dramatically from the dark background, creating a strong sense of depth, abundance, and visual richness.

The painting reflects the Northern European tradition of sumptuous banquet still lifes, interpreted through the polished naturalism and decorative taste of the late-19th-century German salon.

Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear and some minor old restoration.
