Very Fine 19th-century French Gilt Bronze after model by Cloud Michel Clodion ( 1738 - 1814 )

The sculpture called  "The Childhood of Silenus" depicts a young satyr in human form, his pan flute slung over his shoulder, accompanied by a bacchante and two children, all dressed in drapery and animal skins. They dance, play the tambourine and wander around in a joyful atmosphere.

Beautiful original gilding, fine, very detailed casting.

On green marble base.

Signed on the base Clodion.

Size: 17 1/2" ( 44,5 cm ) height,  10" ( 25,5 cm ) width,  7" ( 18 cm ) depth.

Condition: very good.
