Fine Imperial Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Kazan Mother of God, mounted in an elaborate 84 silver gilt oklad richly decorated with refined cloisonné enamel work.
The finely executed repoussé and engraved silver cover features striking two-tone gilded surfaces in yellow and white silver, creating a sophisticated decorative contrast throughout the composition. The oklad is extensively adorned with intricate enamel decoration, including ornamental side columns, border bands, and richly detailed halo ornamentation characteristic of the finest Moscow silver workshops of the late Imperial period.
The overall design reflects the luxurious aesthetic associated with the celebrated Russian enamel silver tradition of the late 19th century. The combination of elegant repoussé work, detailed engraving, and extensive cloisonné enamel decoration gives the icon remarkable decorative presence.
Beneath the oklad remains the original hand-painted icon executed in tempera on wood panel in traditional Russian iconographic manner.
Hallmarked with Russian 84 silver standard and maker’s initials “АЗ” in Cyrillic. Moscow, late 19th – early 20th century.
A beautiful and highly decorative example of Imperial Russian religious silver and enamel artistry.
