A magnificent end of 19th-century French Japonisme large centerpiece combining a finely hand-painted Japanese Satsuma ceramic bowl with richly gilded bronze mounts and a beautifully figured onyx base. Created during the height of the European fascination with Japanese decorative arts in the late nineteenth century, the piece exemplifies the elegant fusion of Eastern craftsmanship and French decorative design.

The bowl is lavishly decorated with traditional Japanese figural scenes executed in vibrant enamels, extensive raised gilding, and intricate hand-painted details characteristic of fine export Satsuma wares. The quality of the decoration and the remarkable preservation of the painted surface make this an especially attractive example.

Mounted within an elaborate gilt bronze framework of exceptional casting quality, the centerpiece features scrolling acanthus-form handles, a fluted rim, lion-paw feet, and decorative mascaron mounts. The richly veined onyx base provides a striking contrast to the warm gilded bronze and colorful ceramic decoration, creating a luxurious and highly decorative presentation.

An impressive and substantial centerpiece combining French decorative arts and Japanese craftsmanship, ideal for both collectors and sophisticated interior settings.
