Imperial Russian Silver-Gilt Cloisonné and Plique-à-Jour Enamel Throne Salt by Pavel Ovchinnikov, Moscow, 1898

An exquisite Imperial Russian silver-gilt throne-form salt cellar (solonka) by the celebrated Moscow firm of Pavel Ovchinnikov, holder of the prestigious Imperial Warrant and among the foremost masters of Russian enameled silver.

The throne is richly decorated with vibrant cloisonné enamel in multiple shades, while the back panel features delicate plique-à-jour enamel centered with the Cyrillic initials “НА”, likely the monogram of the original owner. The piece is further adorned with intricate scrolling ornament and beaded borders, displaying the refined craftsmanship characteristic of Ovchinnikov’s finest late Imperial work.

The underside bears the Moscow 84 silver standard, the maker’s mark Pavel Ovchinnikov, and the date 1898.

A rare and highly decorative example of late 19th-century Russian enamel artistry.
