Important French gilt bronze centerpiece tazza by the noted sculptor Émile Picault, executed in the second half of the 19th century in refined Neoclassical taste.
The central medallion is cast in high relief, depicting the biblical scene of Salome and the Head of Saint John the Baptist, encircled by the Latin inscription:
“HERODIAS – SALOME – CAPUT JOANNIS”
The composition is finely modeled, with strong attention to anatomy and drapery. The dish is framed by a classical frieze and raised on an ornate tripod base with stylized zoomorphic legs, creating a bold sculptural presence. The surface retains a rich gilt bronze patina.
Signed “E. Picault Sculp.” and bearing additional period foundry marks (“HP”) to each leg.
