A striking late-period work by Russian artist Oleg Tselkov, one of the leading figures of Soviet Nonconformist Art. Celebrated for his unmistakable visual language, Tselkov created monumental mask-like faces that became enduring symbols of individuality, alienation, and resistance to official Soviet aesthetics.

In Portrait with Hands, an enigmatic figure emerges within a compressed field of oversized hands, rendered in the artist’s rich violet palette. The composition conveys psychological tension, while the monumental head and surrounding forms suggest pressure, control, and silent confrontation.

Works from Tselkov’s mature period are especially sought after for their bold presence, iconic imagery, and historical importance within postwar Russian art. His paintings are held in major museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, the State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, and prominent international private collections.
