Imperial Russian Silver-Gilt Plique-à-Jour Enamel Bratina Bowl by Khlebnikov, Moscow, late 19th century
Superb Imperial Russian silver-gilt Bratina bowl by the renowned Moscow firm Khlebnikov, official supplier to the Imperial Court. The bowl is richly decorated with vibrant polychrome plique-à-jour enamel, one of the most complex and luxurious enameling techniques, creating luminous stained-glass–like panels of traditional Russian foliate ornament framed by delicate beadwork borders. The elegant, scalloped form with raised gilded ribs enhances the sculptural design, while the interior is fully gilded.
Marked Moscow city mark, 88 silver standards, together with the maker’s mark Khlebnikov and Imperial Warrant.
A striking example of high-quality Imperial Russian enamel craftsmanship from one of the most prestigious Moscow workshops of the 19th century.
